In the early 1940's the Clinton/St. Clair County Firemen's Association was organized consisting of volunteer firefighters from 56 departments in three counties, three main officers and nine trustees, plus several different fire equipment distributors from Illinois and Missouri.

In the late 1940's the members met and decided that there was a need for a program that would help firefighters' families in the event of loss of life. The program was named Clinton/St. Clair County Firemen's Association Death Benevolent Fund. The program started out small and has today grown into a program with over 900 members.

In the 1980's the organization purchased a Children's Fire Safety Trailer for $15,000 for all departments to use during Fire Prevention. The organization also purchased a small trailer that is used for competition events by showing the public the different events that a firefighter does to have fun and keep in shape.

The main objectives of the organization today are to help in obtaining mutual aid from surrounding departments, help provide additional training to the members, and update the members on the latest equipment and apparatus that is being used. These objectives are achieved by using the organization's web site and updating it periodically. One of the biggest training classes that the organization ever held was the Severe Weather Storm Spotters Class that had an attendance of 201 firefighters, EMS, and police officers from five counties.

In 2003 the organization started a new website to keep members updated on current news and events as well as help them locate different apparatus, equipment, safety gear, and clothing needed to do their jobs safely. In 2005 we purchased a digital camera to post pictures of training, current events, fires, and different departments' apparatus on our website. Please feel free to browse through our website and see all the information that can be found.
